Our work

France BioLead has helped transform a collection of individual stakeholders into a fully-fledged sector.

1. VISIBILITY & NETWORK

Since its creation in late 2022, France BioLead has helped build a more visible, clearly defined and recognised sector.

By bringing stakeholders together through flagship events, developing impactful digital communications and presenting a united voice to the media and public authorities, the Alliance is raising the profile of French biomanufacturing.

National Biomedicines Biomanufacturing Day: the sector’s annual flagship event

> Discover

Held every June, the JNBB brings together the entire ecosystem to address the key challenges facing biomanufacturing.

Across France and online, it fosters dialogue, showcases expertise and raises the profile of stakeholders across the sector.

Championing the Voice of Biomanufacturing in France

Championing the Voice of Biomanufacturing in France

Beyond its events, France BioLead implements a communications strategy that showcases its members’ expertise, highlights technological, scientific and industrial innovations in biomanufacturing, and raises awareness of career opportunities among talent, decision-makers and the general public.

Through a strong digital presence, regular media coverage and targeted communications, the Alliance raises the profile and appeal of the ecosystem while building a collective voice on strategic issues relating to biological medicines.

2. INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY & INDUSTRIALISATION

Accelerating Innovation for Patients

For therapeutic innovations to benefit patients rapidly, it is essential to better understand the challenges facing the sector, anticipate technological breakthroughs and foster dialogue between the academic, industry and institutional communities.

France BioLead acts as a catalyst by generating knowledge, bringing together expertise and sharing a common vision of the technologies that will shape the future of biomanufacturing. Through its extensive network, which brings together stakeholders from across the value chain, France BioLead also helps accelerate the search for partners and identify the right expertise and contacts more quickly to advance innovation projects.

Bringing Together Expertise to Accelerate the Technologies of Tomorrow

> Bringing Together Expertise to Accelerate the Technologies of Tomorrow

In partnership with the Biotherapies and Biomanufacturing PEPR (Priority Research Programme and Equipment) and the Bioproduction and Biotherapies Integrator Network, France BioLead organises Technology Meetings, bringing together researchers, manufacturers and sector experts to address key scientific and technological challenges.

These meetings have two objectives:

  • establish a common language between academia and industry, grounded in scientific excellence
  • support public- and private-sector decision-makers in their strategic choices by identifying the technologies and R&D priorities with the greatest potential

Key figures:

  • 5 Technology Meetings held
  • More than 100 academic and industry experts mobilised
  • 5 technology briefs covering the main families of biological medicines

Available to France BioLead members, these briefs provide a state-of-the-art overview of the different therapeutic platforms and their manufacturing processes. They analyse technological barriers, identify research and development priorities and highlight France’s strengths in each field.

Preparing for Smart Biomanufacturing

> Preparing for Smart Biomanufacturing

AI is opening up new opportunities to accelerate development, optimise processes and enhance the industrial performance of biomanufacturing.

To support this transformation, France BioLead, Capgemini and WhiteLab Genomics brought together stakeholders from across the ecosystem for a cross-sector workshop focused on AI and biomanufacturing.

This collaborative work led to the publication of the white paper:Towards a New Era of Intelligent Bioproduction

Drawing on contributions from academic, industry and technology experts from across the value chain, this white paper presents a shared vision of the opportunities offered by AI.

It aims to build a shared understanding, inspire action and offer practical guidance tosupport this transformation.

Through this collaborative approach, France BioLead is helping to pave the way for more efficient, agile and innovative biomanufacturing, for the benefit of patients.

Strengthening the Performance and Resilience of Biomanufacturing Sites

To accelerate the growth of industrial biomanufacturing, France BioLead coordinates a community of manufacturers that shares experience, compares practices and develops joint solutions to the operational challenges of biomanufacturing.
This approach is built around two complementary initiatives:
  • the Biomanufacturing Industry Workshops, held in rotation at members’ sites, which provide opportunities for on-site discussions, facility visits and sharing experience
  • a Manufacturing Community that enables these discussions to continue on a day-to-day basis, allowing professionals to consult their peers, share resources and disseminate best practices.
By bringing together leaders from different functions (Production, Quality, HSE, Process, Engineering, HR, Procurement and Site Management), France BioLead is building a strong network for knowledge-sharing and mutual support around key issues facing biomanufacturing sites, such as: single-use technologies in production, skills management, raw materials and consumables, planned shutdowns (reliability and optimisation), biocontaminated waste and effluent management, and energy efficiency.

This collective expertise helps strengthen the performance, resilience and competitiveness of French biomanufacturing sites.

Bringing the Ecosystem Together around Technological Challenges

In vivo CAR: a national alliance to accelerate the next generation of cell therapies

France BioLead, UNITC (Consortium in Advancing Cancer Cell and Gene Therapy) and CALYM Carnot Institute are leading an ambitious collaborative project to build a national alliance dedicated to in vivo cell engineering. By bringing together public- and private-sector stakeholders around shared objectives, the project aims to position France among the leaders in this new generation of cell therapies.

The goal? To develop three in vivo CAR candidates manufactured in France, drawing on the technologies, expertise and intellectual property already available within laboratories, hospitals, biotech companies and manufacturers. The project aims to bring these building blocks of innovation together, evaluate them and secure the funding needed to accelerate their development.

Developed through consultation with more than 200 experts from across the ecosystem, this initiative is designed to establish a shared national roadmap for in vivo CAR.

But what exactly is bioproduction?

Behind every innovative vaccine, every cancer treatment or every therapy for a rare disease, there are thousands of people working together to turn a scientific discovery into a medicine capable of changing patients’ lives. Scientists, of course. But also technicians, engineers, artificial intelligence specialists, quality experts, logistics specialists and communications professionals.

5. REGULATION & PUBLIC POLICY

The development of biomanufacturing depends on a regulatory, economic and industrial framework tailored to the specific characteristics of biological medicines.

The development of biomanufacturing depends on a regulatory, economic and industrial framework tailored to the specific characteristics of biological medicines.

France BioLead brings together its members’ expertise to develop shared positions, produce policy briefs and put forward proposals on the sector’s key issues, including the Biotech Act, micro-organisms and toxins, the work of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council and initiatives under the Strategic Sector Contract (CSF).

This work is underpinned by ongoing dialogue with government ministries, national agencies and institutional stakeholders. By championing a shared vision and recommendations grounded in practical expertise, France BioLead has established itself as a trusted third party that helps inform public decision-making and supports the development of biomanufacturing in France.
