National sovereign roadmap proposal for in vivo CARs
This document, presented on June 2, 2026 by UNITC, France Biolead and Institut Carnot CALYM, proposes a national trajectory to develop in vivo CAR therapies in France, a technology enabling direct reprogramming of the patient's immune cells via vectors, without any ex vivo cell manipulation. Faced with intense international competition and the fact that no CAR-T is currently produced on French soil, the document calls for urgent coordinated action. The strategy plans the development of 3 in vivo CARs targeting hematological malignancies, autoimmune diseases and solid tumors, leveraging existing French intellectual property. To structure the ecosystem, a public-private alliance built around 4 pillars is proposed: scientific intelligence, biotechnology assembly, a shared commercial portal and medico-economic anticipation of care pathways. Funding is envisioned progressively between 2026 and 2030, through BPI calls for projects, private investment and then state funding.
