👉 Simplification, the primary driver of public-private partnership research

Nathalie Drach Temam, President of Sorbonne University, and Patrice Caine, Chairman and CEO of Thalès, presented the report “Amplifying Public-Private Partnership Research” in early July. It highlights nine measures to facilitate private sector investment in academic research and partnerships. With the hope of achieving rapid impact, priority is given to simplification. The report also calls for an “acceleration” in the deployment of joint public and private laboratories. “We must create the conditions for effective collaboration between public and private research. Both are essential and must work hand in hand,” insists Philippe Baptiste, Minister for Higher Education and Research.


👉 France 2030 supports 15 new chairs in biology and health 

The government has just announced 15 new winners of France 2030's “Chairs of Excellence in Biology/Health.” These research projects will be funded for a period of five years. Among them, KRASY (Université Paris Cité) aims to develop targeted therapies for patients with vascular malformations secondary to a somatic mutation of KRAS. BreastCancerStart (CNRS) is studying cellular plasticity in the initiation of breast cancer: these mechanisms could thus guide biotherapies. Finally, FIDELIO (Institut Pasteur) is studying cellular mechanisms that can be exploited for anti-infective therapies.


👉 Pharmaceutical research enters orbit

SpaceX is working on a program to develop pharmaceutical products in space. This environment, thanks to microgravity and high radiation, should favor new formulations. SpaceX is not alone in this sector. The American company Varda Space Industries is also counting on weightlessness to crystallize active ingredients in a unique way. In Europe, the European Space Agency's Business in Space Growth Network also wants to facilitate the transition from research to industry, particularly for the manufacture of biomolecules and antibodies in orbit.
