👉 Normandy promotes its training opportunities

The Normandy Regional Guidance and Careers Agency has published a new guide dedicated to biopharmaceuticals and bioproduction. Produced in collaboration with the University of Rouen, it provides a comprehensive overview of the professions (R&D technician, bioinformatician, production operator, production process manager, etc.) and training courses available in the region. Normandy, France's second largest region in terms of biopharmaceutical production volume, has a comprehensive ecosystem, with seven industrial clusters, including Polepharma, cutting-edge laboratories (CARMEN, CBSA, PANTHER, etc.), technology platforms (HeRacLeS, PS2E), innovative start-ups (Alga Biologics, Lys Therapeutics), and two university hospitals.

👉 Octocells aims to revolutionize cellular bioproduction

The Rouen-based start-up Octocells, founded in 2023, is developing an innovative polymer matrix that could increase cell density in bioproduction processes by a factor of 200. “Our solution solves several problems,” summarizes Zied Souguir, the founder of the Octocells project, in an interview with the Journal des Entreprises. “It requires less culture medium liquid, less energy and space to set up, and reduces the amount of plastic used in the operation.” The solution, which thus reduces bioproduction costs, could find its place in the manufacture of vaccines, biomedicines, and cosmetics.

👉 The FDA is preparing a regulatory shift in favor of biosimilars

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced its intention to exempt biosimilars from comparative efficacy studies (CES) in clinical trials when robust analytical and functional data already demonstrate biosimilarity. New recommendations are expected within three to six months. They should also promote the interchangeability of biologics by physicians or at the pharmacy. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce healthcare spending, as biosimilars remain underutilized in the United States.
