In vivo CAR therapies could well represent the next revolution in immunotherapy. While current CAR-T therapies have demonstrated their effectiveness, they remain complex, expensive, and difficult to deploy on a large scale. In contrast, in vivo CAR therapies offer a much simpler approach: directly programming a patient’s immune cells within the body, without the lengthy ex vivo manufacturing process.
Around the world, investments are accelerating, clinical trials are multiplying, and major pharmaceutical companies are already positioning themselves in this promising field. In this dynamic context, France has considerable strengths: internationally recognized research, expert hospital centers, and a rapidly growing biotech ecosystem. However, without a coordinated strategy, there is a risk that innovations, talent, and industrial value will move abroad.
This project led by France Biolead, UNITC et Calym, aims to bring together academic, clinical, and industrial stakeholders around a common ambition: to establish a French in vivo CAR sector. The objective is not only to develop new treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases, but also to build an ecosystem capable of transforming scientific discoveries into concrete solutions for patients.
Through the development of several therapeutic programs, the creation of public-private partnerships, and the structuring of a genuine national value chain, this initiative seeks to position France among the leaders of this new generation of biotherapies. It is a scientific, medical, industrial, and strategic challenge that could shape the future of personalized medicine in Europe.
