The key facts about the bioproduction sector
👉 At the JNBB, conferences, visits, an escape game...
Under the patronage of the President of the Republic, the second National Day of Biopharmaceutical Bioproduction (JNBB) focused on attracting talent, with training demonstrations via serious games and virtual reality with Immerscio/bio in Paris, mini-villages and fun workshops, including an escape game at the Bio3 Institute in Tours, not to mention numerous open houses at training establishments (STL high schools, engineering schools, etc.) and industrial sites, including Myonex, which invited students and professionals to visit its cryopreservation site in Bailly-Romainvilliers. At Clermont Auvergne University, the conference “Biomedicines: using living organisms to treat disease” brought together students and teachers. Finally, on the web, the conference “Bioproduction of biomedicines: technology to redefine the future of health” can be found on YouTube!
👉 ...and the inauguration of a new production unit!
HTL Biotechnology took advantage of JNBB to inaugurate a sterile hyaluronic acid production unit in Javené (Ille-et-Vilaine). Supported by a €12 million investment as part of the 2022-2026 strategic plan, this line aims to combine hyaluronic acid with thermosensitive molecules, opening up new therapeutic prospects, particularly in ophthalmology and rheumatology. “Due to the high level of technical expertise required, internal qualifications have been put in place and around ten employees have been specially trained in the production of these sterile forms,” François Fournier, CEO of HTL Biotechnology, which has a turnover of €100 million and employs 300 people, told Les Echos.
👉 EuropaBio calls for an ambitious and cross-cutting EU Biotech Act
In a document published on Wednesday, EuropaBio calls on the European Union to adopt a Biotech Act to strengthen Europe's competitiveness, resilience, and technological sovereignty in a tense geopolitical context. This legislative framework, which would cover all biotechnology applications, including medicines, would be based on three pillars: faster funding for breakthrough innovations, regulatory simplification to accelerate market access, and better coordination between Member States and strategic partners. EuropaBio also recommends the creation of a European biotech Nasdaq, a one-stop shop for authorizations, and a Chief Biotech Officer within the Commission. The organization also stresses the need to modernize rules on clinical trials, intellectual property, and medical devices in order to make Europe an attractive global hub for biotechnology.
