👉🏻Calipso unveils its first industrial results Launched in 2021 with a €17 million investment, including €8 million from Bpifrance, the Calipso consortium (Sanofi, Capgemini, CEA-Leti, CentraleSupélec, Ypso-Facto, GPC Bio) presented its first industrial results at the JNBB. By combining real-time sensors, modelling and AI, the project has reduced the number of trials required for process development from 30 to 3, and improved bioproduction yields by 3% at Sanofi's Vitry-sur-Seine and Marcy-l'Étoile sites, reports Pharmaceutiques. Around ten patents have been filed, and a spin-off, Calipso Sensors, was created in June 2025 to commercialise these solutions. The first sensors will go to market in 2027, with GMP industrial deployment planned from 2028–2029. Sanofi intends to equip its French sites, starting with the Modulus plant in Neuville-sur-Saône.
👉🏻France streamlines the import-export of biological samples for research Enacted on May 26, 2026, the Economic Simplification Act targets administrative burdens in research, among other areas. Scientists no longer need to obtain a specific authorisation to import or export human biological samples (blood, tissues, cells), provided they already hold a clinical trial or biobank authorisation. The measure, led by the Directorate General for Research and Innovation (DGRI), aims to simplify procedures for academic and industrial researchers and to strengthen the competitiveness of French research.
👉🏻EuropaBio seeks to shape regulatory frameworks on biological defence EuropaBio, the European association of biotechnology industries, is launching a Biodefense & Biosecurity task force to consolidate industry positions in response to ongoing regulatory developments, notably under the Biotech Act. "The decisions taken today (...) will define the conditions under which the European biotechnology sector will innovate, grow and remain competitive across ALL sectors," says Claire Skentelbery, Director General of EuropaBio. Chaired by Ricardo Gent (DIB), the task force will bring together technical experts and policy officers from the association's members to produce recommendations for European institutions.
