In an interview with Figaro Magazine, Charles-Édouard Escurat, Director General of the Health Innovation Agency, gives a mid-term review of the Health Innovation 2030 plan, with €3.4 billion committed out of a total budget of €7 billion. The plan aims in particular to invest in biomedical research and the production of biotherapies and innovative therapies. “Overall, we are making good progress. For example, France has moved up one place in the European ranking for biotherapies in development,” said the director. Among the plan's other achievements is the simplification of clinical research procedures: “We are working to digitize consent forms and decentralize research so that patients no longer have to travel for administrative procedures or check-ups. We have also created five bioclusters to accelerate innovation and develop synergies between industry and researchers.”
👉 A new biomedical research center in Créteil
The University of Créteil has inaugurated the biomedical research building (BRB) on the Mondor campus of the University of Paris-Est Créteil (Upec). With its 5,600 m², it will accommodate 170 researchers in various research units, including the LabEx Vaccine Research Institute, which specializes in research into vaccines for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C virus, and infectious diseases; and the teams at the Mondor Institute for Biomedical Research (IMRB), which study chronic diseases, the impact of the environment on health, and cardiorespiratory system failures. "This facility, designed with and for researchers, symbolizes the excellence in innovation that our university stands for. It fits perfectly into the exceptional hospital-university ecosystem that surrounds it," says Jean-Luc Dubois-Randé, president of UPEC.
👉 In Boston, a BIO US between strategic partnerships and innovations in bioproduction
The BIO International Convention, held in Boston from June 16 to 19, highlighted the strategic growth of bioproduction worldwide. The event was an opportunity for certain states, such as Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia, to formalize partnerships aimed at developing local manufacturing of vaccines and advanced therapies. New projects for modular production units for cell and gene therapies were unveiled, while industrial platforms in North America, Asia, and Europe announced their ambitions to increase capacity. On the process side, the show also revealed technical advances, particularly in antibody purification, with solutions designed to accelerate throughput while ensuring purity.
